For those needing something to occupy young minds this long weekend, considering entering the Letters About Literature contest. Students are asked to write a letter to a favorite author (living or dead) and describe how the author's work has impacted the reader's world view. State level winners will receive cash and gift cards worth $150. National winners will receive additional gift cards and grant money for their local school or library. The contest is open to grades 4 through 12. Letters entered in LAL 2012 must be postmarked no later than January 6, 2012 and must be recieved at LAL Central no later than 1/17/2012. Each entry must have an official entry coupon attached.
